Certificate in Counselling Skills

What is it?

This is a 10-week introductory course for anyone interested in counselling concepts and who may wish to embark on a career as a counsellor or hypnotherapist.

Where is it held?

The course will be delivered on Monday evenings at Ormiston Chadwick Academy, Liverpool Road, Widnes from 6 pm to 9 pm. This is a rolling programme so spaces are always available.

What will I learn?

You will learn skills to improve your listening and verbal skills and develop your self-awareness. The course offers the foundation for vocational counsellor training and will introduce you to experiential learning processes, encourage participation, support personal growth, develop confidence and self-esteem and provide an underpinning knowledge of codes of conduct and ethical practice related to the field.

You will complete the course with skills directly linked to working in the helping professions and will have gained the necessary skills and knowledge to move on to the next level of counsellor training.

What do I need to join the course?

You will need the enthusiasm to engage in learning lifelong skills. You should have a basic understanding of counselling as a therapeutic intervention, and it is expected that you will have a good enough level of literacy to complete any written work.

Career Progression

There will be a 500-word tutor-marked assignment; successful students will receive the Certificate in Counselling Skills which is graded at and equivalent to Level 2 under the National Qualification and Credit Framework for knowledge, skills and competence and accredited by The National Council of Psychotherapists.

Following the introductory certificate you will be eligible to progress through the Certificate in Counselling then Diploma in Counselling, or the Diploma in Hypnosis and Psychotherapy. The Diploma’s are practitioner level qualification allowing you to practice as a qualified counsellor or hypnotherapist.
